Frequently Asked Questions
Mold
How do I know if I have a mold problem?
Common indicators include musty smells, visible discoloration on walls, ceilings, or in the crawlspace, ongoing allergy or respiratory symptoms, and any history of leaks or moisture intrusion. The only way to know for certain is a professional inspection with air or surface sampling.
Is all mold dangerous?
Not all mold is highly toxic, but virtually all elevated indoor mold is unhealthy — especially for children, the elderly, and anyone with allergies, asthma, or compromised immune systems. The right response depends on the species, the levels, and the location, which is what proper testing tells us.
How is professional mold remediation different from DIY?
DIY methods often disturb mold without containment, spreading spores throughout the home and making the problem dramatically worse. Our IICRC-standard process uses full containment, HEPA filtration, source removal, and post-remediation verification testing to ensure the problem is truly gone.
Radon
What is radon and why should I care?
Radon is an invisible, odorless radioactive gas that seeps up from the ground into homes. It’s the leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers, and Middle Tennessee includes many areas with elevated radon levels. Testing is the only way to know your home’s level.
How does radon testing work?
We place a continuous radon monitor in the lowest livable level of your home for a minimum of 48 hours under closed-house conditions. The device records radon levels hour by hour and we provide a detailed lab-quality report with results.
What if my radon levels are high?
If results are at or above the EPA action level (4.0 pCi/L), we recommend a mitigation system. Our custom-engineered systems safely vent radon out of your home, and we follow up with verification testing to confirm levels are reduced — often by 90% or more.
Crawlspaces & Moisture
What is crawlspace encapsulation?
Encapsulation is the process of sealing your crawlspace from the outside environment using a heavy-duty vapor barrier on the floor, walls, and piers — combined with vent sealing, insulation, and a dehumidifier. The result is a dry, clean, conditioned space that protects your home and air quality.
Why does my crawlspace affect the air I breathe upstairs?
The “stack effect” pulls air from the lowest part of your home upward. Up to 50% of the air on your main floor may originate in the crawlspace. If it’s damp, musty, or full of mold, that’s exactly what your family is breathing.
Can encapsulation help with energy bills?
Yes. A sealed, dehumidified crawlspace allows your HVAC system to work more efficiently and reduces moisture-driven cooling load. Many homeowners notice a meaningful reduction in cooling costs after encapsulation.
Water Damage Restoration
How fast can you respond to a water emergency?
We dispatch 24/7 across Middle Tennessee and are typically on site the same day — often within hours. The first 24–48 hours are critical, so we move fast to extract water, set up drying equipment, and protect your home from further damage.
Why does water damage need to be handled immediately?
Mold can begin to establish within 24–48 hours of water exposure, and saturated materials lose strength quickly. Rapid extraction, structural drying, and antimicrobial treatment prevent secondary mold growth, protect your belongings, and keep a small problem from becoming a major rebuild.
